NEW HOUSE OUDE WESTHOF

With a young family, we realised that a reluctant move from the city centre to the suburbs was needed to offer our children space and light in their growing years. After searching for an existing house to renovate in Cape Town’s northern suburbs, we realised that very few existing homes offer a north-facing garden and well-positioned living areas.

When an opportunity arose to purchase a 3000m2 erf bordering the Majik Forest in Durbanville, we took the plunge. A simple north-facing barn-style house was designed with three en-suite bedrooms and a separate office annex that could double up as a guest suite. With a limited budget, the finishing costs were kept to a minimum by using open roof trusses and sealed cement screed floors.

The large double volume open-plan living area offers a sunny terrace with views of the adjacent nature reserve. The result is a truly light-filled comfortable family home with an oversized indigenous garden.
